As 2020 fast approaches so too does the centenary celebration of the OCA. To mark the occasion, the OCA has produced a Centenary Cap designed to capture the history and spirit of the OCA.
OCA Centenary Cap will be for sale $25 at Old Boys' Day (BBC v TSS) 24th August. This limited edition OCA Cap is designed and produced by Old Boys to commemorate the centenary of Barney Rudd forming the Association in 1920, the year after many returned from active service in WW1.
The Cap features high quality embroidery, original OCA badge, full War Cry along brim & blazer stripe under brim, with 'Old Boy' emblazoned on the back and Centenary dates on the side. A unique OCA item of memorabilia for all Old Boys. Proceeds from the sale of the OCA Centenary cap will go to a bursary fund to enable Old Boys’ sons to attend BBC in circumstances of need.
Onion TV have begun filming a five-part series on the BBC Rugby Program and the 2019 1st XV squad. The program will ultimately air on Foxtel and Rugby Pass. It is expected that the series will be viewed by more than one million people once complete.
The additional attention has caused little distraction with the 1st XV starting off the season with back-to-back wins, against Churchie (0-37) and Gregory Terrace (17 -31). Round 3 this weekend will be played at home against Brisbane Grammar. The OCA wishes all teams participating in this weekend's fixtures a successful weekend.
The College Robotics Club has continued to grow from strength to strength. On the back of last year’s success at the Robocup Junior 2018 World Championships held in Montreal, Canada three teams from the College competed in Sydney at the 2019 Championships during the recent semester holidays. The boys achieved three first places and a third place as follows:
- Robocup Junior 2019 Individual Lightweight Soccer World Champions (undefeated);
- RoboCup Junior 2019 Lightweight Soccer Superteam World Champions;
- Third in RoboCup Junior 2019 Lightweight Soccer Superteam; and
- RoboCup Junior 2019 Open Soccer Superteam World Champions;
One team was awarded the Best Team Spirit Award whilst another picked up the Best Innovation award.
Similarly impressive results were seen in the recent RoboCup Junior Brisbane Regional Competition held at Somerville House. The following results were achieved by some of the 30 College teams which competed:
Soccer
Open division: First & Third
Lightweight division: First & Second
Standard division: First
Rescue
Open division: First & Third
Secondary division: First, Second & Third
Primary division: Third
The Robotics Club is supported by the time and effort given by many Old Collegians themselves former members of the Robotics Club during their time at the College. The Club is also, of course, supported by the indefatigable Mr Colin Noy. The Brisbane Boys’ College Old Collegians’ Association has recently conferred honorary membership of the Association upon Mr Noy in recognition of his contributions to BBC Science and Robotics, the latter of which he has long been Master in Charge.
The OCA wish the boys every success in the upcoming Queensland RoboCup Junior Championships.

Thirty-five Vintage Collegians made the journey to Birches Restaurant at Mt Mee to celebrate the annual Christmas in July function. Many thanks to Headmaster Paul Brown, President of the OCA Chris Humphrey, Archivist Helen Jackson and Head of Advancement Peter Franks for joining the group. Special thanks also to Reverend Graham Cole for running the Chapel service and for his presence at the lunch - it was a fitting opportunity for the group to thank Graham for his many years of outstanding service to the College as he nears his retirement.
