Remote Observing from AAT remote observing stations

Remote Observing

We currently have eight remote observing stations in Australia: AAO-MQ (North Ryde), RSAA (Canberrra), Swinburne (Melbourne), ICRAR (Perth), USQ (Toowooba), UNSW (Sydney),  UQ (Brisbane) and USydney (Sydney). It is now also possible to observe remotely from home provided you have sufficient internet bandwidth.

We also have six remote observing stations overseas: IPMU, NASA, UC Santa Cruz, UMass Lowell, University of Ljubljana and Yale.

Communication is the key to a sucessful observation so please fill out the Visitor Form to notify us of your intentions at least one week before your observing run.

All astronomers working from remote sites must make contact with the AAT site staff at 3pm (4pm during daylight saving). Typically, we make use of zoom when videoconferencing from home and/or polycom from remote stations.

Setting up a New Remote Observing Station

Remote observing stations are restricted to be located within organisations that contribute directly to funding AAT operations. Requests for stations outside these organisations will be considered on a case-by-case basis. If you wish to set up a remote obsering station at your institute, contact the SSO Director.
