Running For Sal. Running for change. Running to support our young kiwis in need.
Nationwide
I lost my Sister to Suicide in September 2019. Last year, to help myself heal and to help my own mental health I started a running challenge which a called "Running For Sal." My goal was to test myself, both physically and mentally and, to share my story in the hope that it may help others along the way.
Last year we managed to raise $85,000 for Gumboot Friday and run more than 2100km. The support was amazing and I want to do it all again this year. Our young New Zealanders need all the support they can get and Gumboot Friday provide that support.
This year, on the 25th of November, I will run 2 minutes for each person we lost to suicide last year. Sadly, that number was 538. So I will be running for 1076 minutes, which is just under 18 hours of running. It scares the shit out of me, but it also gets me bloody excited.
The run will be called "It takes 2"
This name obviously represent the 2 minutes for each person, but it also represents that it only takes one person to talk to another, to ask if they are OK, to be there for them, and to listen without judgment. It only takes 2 people to have a conversation that can change a life.
Thanks Pamela. Thank you so much for your support.
