Potential PhD Projects
Ivy invites applications from students with a strong background in physics/astronomy and/or computer science/software engineering for a joint CSIRO -- ICRAR/UWA PhD position to work with her at the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR; located at the University of Western Australia) and the CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science division located in Kensington, Perth.
In particular, the successful candidate will be expected to work on PhD projects in the following areas:
The ASKAP WALLABY survey of atomic Hydrogen to reveal how star formation is quenched in low-z galaxies beyond the local Volume
Investigate the cold gas (atomic Hydrogen) properties of galaxies that are growing central supermassive black holes using the combination of radio continuum and HI observations
Machine/deep learning applications to help solve the massive data challenges faced by the next-generation telescopes and surveys
CSIRO Astronomy & Space Science and ICRAR are the two leading Australian institutions in radio astronomy and leading Australia's participation in the international Square Kilometre Array project. ICRAR was established in 2009 as a high profile equal joint venture between Curtin University and UWA. The benefits of CSIRO co-supervision can be found here.
