There is currently a national shortage of urban and regional planners, highlighted in the Planning Institute of Australia's Planners in Australia: State of the Profession Report and in the Federal Government’s Skills Priority List. This planning skills shortage is a critical concern for the state. South Australia needs qualified planning professionals so that we can deal with challenges like housing availability and diversity, population growth, and the transition to a net-zero emissions future. To address this problem, the Commission has proposed an amendment to State Planning Policy 1: Integrated Planning (SPP1). The proposed amendment addresses the long-term resourcing and provision of skills required to service our planning system and aims to support and enhance SA’s future planning capabilities. The panel’s view is that the planning system is working well, and the evidence provided throughout the public consultation indicated there is broad support for the new system which was implemented in 2021. The Government is adopting more than 100 recommendations to make the nation’s best planning system even more efficient and user-friendly. We look forward to collaborating with the Minister for Planning and Planning and Land Use Services on the implementation of the recommendations. #planning #southaustralia

Congratulations to the PlanSA team 👏
Three years ago, SA went live with our brand new electronic planning system. The amazing group of people at PlanSA, within PLUS (many who helped build the system) look after the electronic system and us, the users of the system. None of them are planning and development professionals but they look after us everyday, running a system that never sleeps. They are the most hard working, positive group of people you will find who strive to listen to what we need as users and help people everyday with 100% commitment to continuous improvement. This system is so much more than the electronic Planning and Design Code and DA workflow - it is allowing us to draw on massive amounts of data, which is driving more innovation - including the Land Supply Activity Dashboard and the newly released Digital Regional Planning Platform, with more to come. A massive congratulations and thanks to Ameya Sawant and his incredible PlanSA team. Enjoy the cake!
