Reading Opens Doors - that is, doors to future opportunities and choices.
About us
In remote Communities across Australia there is often no infrastructure such as libraries or bookstores. Access to reading material is extremely limited and this impacts the achievements of First Nations children. Our purpose is to invest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities to provide the tools and resources they request to shape the direction of their children’s literacy future. Through investment in Community and strategic partnerships the ILF supports sustainable and positive change in First Nations literacy through the supply of books and a greater focus on the publication of First Nations content. We are Community-led, responding to requests from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities for culturally relevant books, including early learning board books, resources, and programs to support Communities to create and publish their stories in languages of their choice. We aim to advocate and build awareness among the wider Australian population of the strengths, knowledge and wisdom held within remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities. We warmly invite you to join our journey and learn more about this impactful work via our website and by signing up to our monthly e-newsletter. If you would like to learn more about becoming an ILF Supporters please contact David Stewart - david@ilf.org.au.

A huge thank you to Wotton Kearney and their clients for raising an incredible $16,470.64 for ILF at the Charity Carnival! We’re so grateful for your support over the past 3 years — this will go a long way towards getting culturally appropriate books into remote Communities across the country 💙
What an incredible night at the Melbourne Charity Carnival 2025. A big thank you to everyone who made this event a success. Together, we raised $16,470.64 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. From delicious food stalls to carnival games, an auction and an exciting raffle, there was something for everyone. We heard from Fundraising Director at the Indigenous Literacy Foundation, David Stewart, who spoke passionately about the work the Foundation is doing to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote Communities through culturally relevant books and learning resources. A special shoutout to our generous sponsors, Catering Project, Remedy Medico Legal, ETHAN and FDC Construction & Fitout and prize donors – your support made this night possible. The key ingredient for this event is the volunteers who come together to support our charity partner. WK staff cook and serve the food, entertain and all lend a hand. Thank you again to everyone who joined us, donated, and contributed. Together, we have helped the Foundation to continue its vital work in remote Indigenous Communities. We can’t wait to see you all again next year. #melbourne #fundraiser #community #event #impactfulhumans
