Speaker 1 (00:00):
Jersey and Amanda jam Nation.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Well, my next guess is one of Australia's favorite people.
He's been an actor in some of our favorite television
shows and he's also extraordinarily loved for his dedication to
raising money for cancer research. One of the ways he's
been doing this is through his beautiful book series. Here
to tell us about his latest book called Dear Lover
is our Dear Friend. See what I did there? Samuel Johnson, Hi, Samuel.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Red Eye, Hello, I wrote.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Something for your last one before this letter to your mum,
which was I must say my mum's been gone for
about eighteen years now, and it was the easiest thing
I've ever written. I just sat down and poured out.
So tell us about this one. What's Dear Lover?
Speaker 1 (00:48):
I had? I had the same experience writing for Dear Lover.
I wrote my letter in about nine and a half
minutes and I didn't change it. It just came out.
Some of the letters just come out easily and others
are hard fought for after many weeks. It really does.
That really does depend on the book that we're doing
and the person that you're writing to. But basically, the
(01:09):
Lover is an assembly of letters to lovers from notable Australians.
So we've got famous people in there, like like we
had you for dear Mum. We've got famous people in there.
But did you know that there are traples?
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I've heard of trupples. Have you got a letter from
someone in a thrupple?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Yeah? Yeah? And I mean I mean is it one
person with two others? Or is it? Or are all
three with each other? That's the question I've got.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
I think it's all three with each other? Intriguing, isn't it?
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Mate? It does me? Does it? Man? It's bananas, It's
absolutely bananas. Before I did this book, I'd never heard
of a traple. I'd heard of a threesome, but I've
never heard of a traple, but I reckon. The letter
that got to me the most was comedian Bev Kellix.
She wrote about her partner that it wasn't going very
(02:04):
well and maybe she should have left a year ago,
and maybe if she was patient for another year it
might improve, and it was. It's just kind of really
really honest and really sad. Anyway, she texted me two
days ago, she just she's just gone on a date
night with her partner. And things are going really well.
(02:24):
I'm glad to report.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
And so did the partner read the letter?
Speaker 1 (02:29):
No, not yet. They might go into another I reckon
they might go into another bed. Bet after.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
As they walked past bookstores, she say, nothing to see
in there.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Exactly, I mean people of people. One thing that really
surprised me Jonesy and Amanda is that people have and
I didn't ask this of them. They've been really honest.
Jackie Lamby's letter is very direct, very honest. She's currently single,
so she's got a list of rules for any partner.
(03:02):
They must like Rambo fair enough. That's but there's no
argument there.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
I love I love Rambo sept for I will say
this Rambo five, he disrespected the character. But up until that.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
So you and Jackie can never be together. I like
the line.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
I'd have to ask my wife, but I'd like to
discuss with Jackie what her thoughts of Rambo five.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
I've been well, but but do you like dag with dogs?
Because because you've got to like dag with dogs as well,
you know what, I.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Do like them once a year.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Don't talk yourself into going out with Jackie Lamb if
it doesn't come naturally to you the.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Next minute, I'm married to Jackie Lamb.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
But I like the notion that it's not all happy
long term partners. There's there's some challenges in here, or
people writing that as to people they didn't end up with.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
Maybe exactly, it's not just stunning tributes. I mean, I'll
bet you know Grant and She's Dade's tributes to each
other are very brilliant. But it's not just that's so,
it's really I mean, it really goes everywhere this book,
like it's it's funny. It's funny that I've curated it
because for about four decades I didn't believe in love
(04:10):
at all.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Oh yeah, how do you feel about Rambo?
Speaker 1 (04:14):
Well, I mean, Rambo is a bit more in my
old self. Rambo is a bit more albal. I just
I was very confused while love. I didn't know what
it meant. And you know, I'm in my mid forties now,
so I kind of know what it means now. But
it took a long time to grapple with.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Are you in a relationship very happily?
Speaker 1 (04:35):
Well, Well, we don't. We don't. We don't fight at all.
There's no tension, there's no there's like like, I don't
go oh no about anything.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Are you sure you're in a relationship with someone else.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
It was a person? Because you actors get a bit weird.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
I know that. Oh well, I mean, yes, admittedly I
have to blow my girl friend up.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Are you happy that you know because you played Molly?
Are you happy that you didn't have to blame? In
the most recent incarnation of him bearing his bum on
the stage at Elton John's.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Concept, hey listen, can I be honest? Can I be honest? Yes?
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Please?
Speaker 1 (05:20):
It's time for him to hang up his hat. Man. Well, yeah,
I look, there's a lot I haven't said, and I'm
trying really hard to be diplomatic, and and I've seen
the same type of thing happen over and over again,
(05:43):
including him when I told him not to coming up
on stage during my gold LOGI Win and ruining my
curried Beanie moment where I was going to try and
raise a lot of money for cancer research by getting
up uncles are skunk and babbling for eight minutes to
(06:03):
finish the logis that night? Not a word? Did we
understand who's looking after him? He must not be out
in public during the PM, not with the way that
he drinks. Hang up your hat on mate.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Well that's that's maybe that's what we need. That's the
message to Molly Well Sam. It's always great to catch up.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
With you, Sam, and we love your level of honesty too.
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (06:30):

Speaker 3 (06:49):

kicks cancer in the face.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
Samuel, love you to talk to you. You take care.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Bye.
