Bus

The Garden can also be accessed by bus. Please check Adelaide Metro for bus services into the city.

Already in the city? A free city connector bus stops on North Terrace and East Terrace, close to the Garden's Main Gate entrance on North Terrace.

Scooters can be used to get to the Garden, but please note that they are not permitted inside the Garden for the safety and comfort of visitors.

Cycle

Bike racks are available outside the Garden entrances. Please only walk your bike through the Garden.

Car

Car parking is available on Plane Tree Drive, with easy access to the Garden through the Friends Gate, Conservatory Gate or Hackney Gate. Please see parking details below.

Please note that visitors are not permitted to drive their vehicles inside Adelaide Botanic Garden.

Parking

Ticketed car parking is available on Plane Tree Drive and in front of the Goodman Building and State Herbarium (in front of the Rose Garden, closest to the Hackney Gate).

Both car parks are accessed from Hackney Road.

We have transitioned to new parking machines which are cashless and paperless. These machines will only accept credit or debit card payments.

To use the machines, input your vehicle registration number plate into the machine when prompted, select the time you would like to park for and tap your credit/debit card.

For instructions on accessing a receipt/tax invoice for your ticket, please click here.

All funds collected from ticketed parking are used to support conservation, education and horticulture at the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium.

Regulations

Botanic gardens are different from public parks in that they're living museums, filled with plant collections with conservation value. For this reason some activities are not permitted as they have the potential to damage or destroy plants.

Botanic Gardens are also places for visitors to find peace and tranquility, so activities that negatively affect this are not permitted.

You must not:

  • ride bikes / bicycles, scooters, skateboards or us rollerskates/blades
  • bring dogs or other pets or animals into the Garden
  • fly drones in or above the Garden (Learn more at our Filming and Photography page)
  • bring alcohol into the Garden
  • use BBQs and portable gas cookers in the Garden
  • smoke or vape in the Garden
  • drive vehicles into the Garden
  • damage or remove plants or enter garden beds
  • play ball or throwing games
  • swim in or enter lakes, ponds or any waterways.

Wildlife

The Botanic Gardens of South Australia are home to a huge variety of bird and animal life that are attracted to the Gardens’ flora. We do, however, ask that you do not feed the wildlife. Find out more about animal welfare and the Botanic Gardens of South Australia.
