Thousands of trees: Good news for Rockley Mount's koalas

The NSW Environmental Trust grant will help regenerate an area of bushland.

The funding will go to the Skillset organisation's land works division for a project known as the Rockley Mount Koala Corridors - Connecting Community Through Conservation.

Rockley Mount local Emily Cotterill, from The Environmental Factor, will be co-leading the project with Skillset.

"The existing vegetation on-site supports a breeding population of koalas," Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said.

"Local landholders, environmental organisations and the wider community acknowledge the significance and current threats, including roads, habitat fragmentation and predation, to this iconic species in the area."

Mr Toole said the project will establish 5.4 kilometres of corridors and increase local knowledge and awareness of the importance of preserving this koala population.

"This will be achieved by planting more than 6000 trees, targeted weed treatment, installing 2.1km of fencing, hosting five community field days involving several local schools and installing three sets of koala road signs," he said.
