Seismic testing has impacts on fisheries and the marine environment. The loud noises from airguns used in seismic testing can injure or kill fish, sea turtles, and marine mammals if they are close by. These noises may also disrupt fish behavior and cause them to temporarily avoid areas where seismic testing is occurring. More research is still needed to fully understand all of the long-term effects of seismic testing on fisheries and the marine environment.
