Lens - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Save, Next and Back buttons?

The Save button saves a proposal to the database so that it can be reloaded at a later time (e.g. via the My Proposals tab by clicking on the proposal ID). The Next and Back buttons keep the information you've entered in local memory only before you've saved it to the database. A page reload will therefore erase anything you have entered unless it has been saved with the Save button. After the proposal has been saved the Next button will save the current page also.

Sometimes moving between pages or saving the proposal form is very slow.

Save your proposal, clear your browser cache and then reload the page. You will be able to access your saved proposal via the My Proposals tab by clicking on the proposal ID.

I've received a browser message saying "This script has become unresponsive" or similar. What should I do?

Click "Stop script" or equivalent, save your proposal, clear your browser cache and then reload the Lens Home page. You will be able to access your saved proposal via the My Proposals tab by clicking on the proposal ID.

The buttons on the form have stopped working. What should I do?

You will need to reload the page. You can access your proposal again via the Current tab by clicking on the proposal ID.

Help! I accidently deleted my proposal. What can I do?

Please send an email to lens@datacentral.org.au with your proposal ID. Note that only proposals saved to the database can be restored, although we make no guarantees that all data can be restored.

Why is my gender being recorded?

Gender information is being collected as a means of monitoring the progress of the status of women in astronomy over time. For more information see the ASA Women in Astronomy website here

Who do I contact if my problem is not listed here?

Please send any other issues to lens@datacentral.org.au and we will attend to them as soon as possible.
