Big congratulations to three of our PhD students for successfully defending their PhD thesis. Well done Dr Cox, Dr Chotalia and Dr Ezad! Dan Cox's thesis, "Chalcophile element processing and distribution beneath a continental volcanic arc" with his most recent paper here Kiran Chotalia's thesis is entitled "The effects of water content on mantle circulation, geochemical cycles and surface observables". Find details of her most recent paper here! Isra Ezad's thesis, entitled "The kinetics of garnet breakdown and spinel grain growth in the upper mantle" AprilJob vacancy: Two PDRAs in Mineral Physics (UCL)
We are currently recruiting for TWO new PDRAs to join the Mineral Physics team at UCL - see here for more details. The deadline for applications is 12th April. OctoberOur very own Prof. Tamsin Mather delivered the Rosalind Franklin 2018 lecture. Tamsin was awarded the Rosalind Franklin award this year on the basis of her achievements in the field of volcanology, her ability to communicate with the public and her imaginative project proposal. For more information, visit here. Fantastic to see the general public queuing to make sure that they get a place to watch!
JuneFollowing on from the massive success of GeoBus at the 2017 Cheltenham Science Festival, we’ve been invited back for a full week as part of the Maker Shack. Last year, the stand was a roaring success and was dubbed ‘the pick of the festival’ !
The team, lead by Charlotte Pike, will be running the now infamous ‘Earthquake-Proof Building Challenge’ again as well as our new Fluvial Tank so that the public can try their hand at modelling and managing river systems. Catch the team 5th-10th June in Cheltenham, or follow Charlotte on Twitter for live updates! #cheltscifest #GeoBus #deepvolatiles May
