Healthier innovations and sustainable packaging efforts key drivers of Aussie beverage sector - say experts. An article by FoodNavigator says “Australians are becoming more health and eco-conscious, shifting their purchasing habits towards functional, sustainable products.” As the food and beverage industry adapts to these changes, sustainable packaging is emerging as a key factor influencing consumer decisions. 📊 The data driving the change: 👉 Nearly 50% of Australian consumers consider sustainability a key factor in their purchases. 👉 Australia is one of the world’s highest per capita consumers of single-use plastics, driving urgent calls for reusable and recycled packaging solutions. 👉 By 2027, health-focused drinks are expected to make up 58% of the market, showing a clear shift in consumer demand for better-for-you and better-for-the-planet products. The Wine Society has four permanent eco-flat bottle listings, including its best-selling wine, The Society’s White Burgundy. These wines are part of the retailer’s leading Sustainability Plan, which aims to halve its total carbon footprint by 2032. 🔎 Why the switch? Dom de Ville, Director of Sustainability and Social Impact comments: “To achieve our ambitious reduction targets, we need to significantly reduce our emissions attributable to packaging. One way to do this is putting more of our wines into lower-carbon packaging formats.” We are motivated to be collaborating with The Wine Society, and to see them supporting this move by offering these wines at a discount to glass. We hope this serves as a catalyst for others in our industry to trial or implement innovations to slash their carbon footprint in a worsening climate crisis. 🍷✨Thank you Wine Australia for the recent coverage announcing our participation in the Business Research and Innovation Initiative (BRII) to innovate sustainable wine packaging. BRII provides funding to startups and SMEs to develop innovative solutions for government policy and service delivery challenges. We’re proud to be one of six companies selected to create low-carbon packaging solutions for Australian wines. Building on our 100% recycled PET eco-flat bottle, designed primarily for commercial wines, we are now testing a new packaging solution that supports premium wine aging and longer shelf-life commercial wines for export. Wine Australia CEO, Dr. Martin Cole, highlighted that “the best innovations in sustainable packaging are yet to come”, and we’re committed to leading the way. We're grateful for the support from Wine Australia and the Australian Government helping us push the boundaries of sustainability and innovation. 📈 The Future of Recycled PET: A Growing Opportunity 📈 According to the Plastic Recycling Market Opportunities and Strategies to 2033 report, the global PET bottle recycling market is set to grow from USD $41.6 billion in 2023 to over USD $90.13 billion by 2033. 🚀 This growth is expected to be driven by the rising demand for sustainable packaging, government initiatives, and investments in circular economy strategies. At Packamama, we are proud to be at the forefront of this movement with our 100% recycled PET innovative wine bottles. We use recycled PET because it offers glass-like sheen and transparency, it does not react with wine, has a fraction of the emissions of glass and less than virgin PET, and contributes to circular material models which reduces the need for oil extraction. For wines that don't benefit from bottle ageing - so the vast majority - then our bottles offer the best all-rounded solution for most wines in net zero economies. 💡 Want to learn more? What an unforgettable experience at Vinexposium Wine Paris last week! 🇫🇷 🍷 With over 50,000 visitors from 155 countries in just 3 days, Wine Paris is quickly becoming the main event in Europe for international wine brands and producers. At Packamama, we truly believe in the power of networking and collaboration, and Wine Paris provided the perfect platform to engage with the global wine community. It was a golden opportunity to reconnect with many industry friends, including Crimson Wine Group, Taylors Wines / Wakefield Wines, Wine Australia, and the Wine and Spirit Trade Association. From in-depth conversations to exciting collaborations, we’re grateful for every interaction that strengthens our journey in the world of wine. 🌏 There’s still a long way to go in driving sustainability within the wine industry. The majority of wines exhibited were still in traditional glass bottles, with only a few alternative packaging options on display. It’s clear that the time for change is now, and we’re committed to leading the way. See you next year Wine Paris! 👋 #WineParis2025 #VinexpoParis #Sustainability #WineIndustry #Innovation #Packamama #SustainableWineBottles
