Do you know that people spend about a third of their lives working?

Knowing that, it’s vital that we feel comfortable and at ease at work. We know that it is impossible to enjoy our job all the time, but the kind of environment we work in has a massive impact on how we feel about our job and colleagues.

Here at @Adyen LATAM we built our offices thinking on how to be creative, relax and have some great places to work and connect to other employees.

It’s very important to remember that at this moment, working from home is the default/recommended, we are open for a small percentage of capacity and following all the covid security measures.

Thinking on this, here are a few tips that we have here and to create an environment that boosts mood, confidence, and productivity.

  1. Have a communicative workplace

There’s nothing worse than a workplace where the only sounds are the relentless tapping of keyboards and an occasional sigh. The so-called ‘pin drop syndrome’, when it’s so quiet people feel afraid to speak, is the bugbear of many employees. Take steps to encourage your employees to talk to one another.

At @Adyen we have dedicated areas in our workspaces for people to relax and have a friendly chat. We have decompression room’s, swing net, foot and body massage, a game room with video games, snooker, ping pong and karaoke. We have a nice bar, and a barbecue area in an open space.

These are some places where they can catch up over lunch or exchange ideas about an upcoming project.

2. Encourage exercise

Exercise can improve health, mood, and productivity. Get people moving. If the roles in your organization are mainly sedentary, encourage people to take breaks and walk around.

At @Adyen we often have body&mind&soul challenges, we count with @Gympass, have a room dedicated to sports and count with bath rooms (so we encourage people to come by bike to the office)

4. Create a workplace like home

Modern approaches to workspace design are an important part of employee satisfaction. A physically comfortable space where people can feel at ease will help to improve mood and provide a better day-to-day working experience.

At @Adyen we make sure that the furniture is comfortable and ergonomic. We also have a lot of plants – they’re a great mood and productivity booster.

5. Take time off together

Overworked people tend to be unproductive, so make sure you allow time to have fun. Organize activities for your team to when they’re off-duty to give them a chance to let off steam and bond.

At @Adyen we arrange breakfast, work snacks and drinks everyday, this is an easy way to do this. Enabling people to relax and socialize together is an easy and time-honored way to build better workplace interactions and develop a better workplace environment.
