About

Ecological Monitoring System Australia (EMSA) is a suite of ecological monitoring protocols developed by the Terrestrial Ecosystem Research Network (TERN) for the Australian Government Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) to support the Natural Heritage Trust program. The protocols have been categorised into 24 ecological field survey modules which can be completed in the Monitor app (in development). By standardising the collection of ecological monitoring data, EMSA enables reliable and consistent measurement of environmental change.

The EMSA module selection tool has been developed to support DCCEEW project managers in the co-design process with Regional Delivery Partners, who are required to use a subset of the 24 EMSA modules for their Natural Resource Management projects. The tool uses information from the EMSA module documents (which are available to download on the TERN website), project service summaries and the EMSA guidance material pack.
