Q: Why did you decide to undertake the ACICIS program?

I chose to take this program because my greatest passions are for Indonesia, law and politics. It is a perfect program for me.

Q: Did you receive a New Colombo Plan Mobility Grant? Do you think the NCP is an important initiative?

Yes, I did and I absolutely believe the New Colombo Mobility Grant is an important initiative to encourage students to learn about our foreign affairs. In a globalised world, it is more prevalent than ever that students are learning how to apply their knowledge overseas.

Q: How have you found the academic components of this virtual program – i.e. the language classes/seminars?

The language classes have been my favourite part of this program. I was elated to learn from Bu Eli as she was always so enthusiastic in class and eager to help us.

Q: What organisation are you interning with?

I’m interning with the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR). I have been working on a literature review regarding non-derograble rights in Southeast Asia.

Q: How have you found the work culture (albeit online) of your host organisation? How is it different to work experience in Australia?

Similar to my work experience in Australia, I found that my host organisation was very helpful and my mentor provided a wide range of sources and assistance to help me.

Q: What are the main skills you have learnt during your virtual internship?

I have learnt to speak more fluently in Bahasa Indonesian and I have gained a better understanding of Indonesian law.

Q: What did you find to be the most rewarding part of this virtual experience?

The friendships I made and the knowledge I will never forget. I will forever cherish my experience in the Law Professional Practicum Program. I have made life-long friends who have shared interests. I have also learnt valuable skills that will be largely beneficial in a future dream career in diplomacy.

Q: Were you able to learn about the Indonesian culture from this virtual program? If yes, how was this achieved?

Yes, I learnt a lot about the Indonesian culture through my language classes.

Q: How will the virtual internship benefit or influence your future career?

I am eager to work in diplomacy so the knowledge and connections I have made will definitely help me.

Absolutely! It’s the best opportunity I have received during my course. I highly recommend it.
