State Highway 25A between Kōpū and Hikuai will be ready in time for Christmas – a full three months earlier than anticipated. The road will reopen by 20 December 2023. This timelapse shows the entire bridge deck being laid over the last ten days. Workers have now completed the deck of the new 124-metre bridge. They've done an incredible job building the bridge in record time—normally, building a bridge like this would take over a year to build, but we've built this one in under seven months. It's taken 24-hour shifts, along with lots of offsite prefabrication of materials, and taking material from other projects. There's still work to do to get the bridge ready before 20 December, and when it opens it'll be under traffic management while we complete finishing works, including drainage and planting. Workers have also cleared slips, upgraded a culvert to increase the road's resilience, and done further maintenance along the rest of SH25A to ensure the full road is up to scratch and is safe and strong. Getting this work done now means we'll be able to avoid further work and disruption over summer.
