NAIDOC Week

Celebrated each year in the first week of July, NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July every year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

William Cooper was an Aboriginal Christian leader from the early twentieth century who fought tirelessly for the rights of his people. One of his lasting legacies is what we today celebrate as NAIDOC Week.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. It is a good time to support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the country.

You can search for NAIDOC Events that are close to you by visiting the NAIDOC Week website.
