GRIFFITH x GRAPE VINE

STREAMED TRIVIA

Access and Frequently Asked Questions page

HOW DOES IT ALL WORK?

We run a video stream of a live host for the show. They’ll run you through the rules, the expectations, help you with your answer sheet, read each question out, and keep the game moving. The host is your streaming spirit guide. It’s all quite structured and tightly timed.

On your end, you’ll answer the questions using an answer sheet. You won’t get the answer sheet until you can see and hear the host, on the stream. The host will tell you a special web address to visit in your browser. That’s where it’s done! It’s important not to navigate away from this answer sheet, or refresh the answer sheet, for the duration of the game.

Twenty minutes before the show starts, use the button above to jump into the stream. We’ll be using Twitch, so if you want to participate in the chat (which we highly recommend), set up a super quick account.

WHAT DO I NEED?

Everything we do happens in a web browser.

There are a few different combinations you can use! Let me give you some examples:

One laptop or computer: Great! Have two browser windows open. One for the stream, and one for the answer sheet. This is the most stable, hassle-free way to roll.

One laptop / computer, one phone: Watch the stream on the computer in a web browser, answer on your phone in the web browser.

Two phones: You are a very portable person. This will be a little cramped, and not how we recommend it at all, but it’s functional if you’re in a pinch. Have the stream on one phone, answers on the other. Both in the browser.

NOTE: You can use a tablet interchangeably with any of the above examples.

Use your Griffith email address to access the answer sheet when it appears during the stream. Your host will give you the answer it. You should not expect to have access to the answer sheet until after you can see the host.

WHAT IF I ONLY HAVE A PHONE?

While you would likely be entertained by the banter in the stream, you’d have no way to actually ‘play’. We’d love to have you, but don’t think you’d get the most out of the experience.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD?

Nothing. Nada. Use your web browser for everything, and wait for your host to guide you.

HOW DO TEAMS WORK?

Discuss what your team name will be with your other team members. Put something unique on the end, in case there are several teams with the same name.

Everyone in your squad must use the same team name, every letter and space an exact match, so that the system can detect and match you all.

Every ticket holding team member will answer on their own device, and have their own individual scores.

Everyone is helping, everyone participates – but the person on your team with the highest score is the one that gets counted as your top team score. If someone on your team taps the wrong thing, the whole team isn’t penalised.

You won’t enter your team name until well after you can see and hear the live host, who will instruct you where to put the information. If you see people in the chat asking about this, let them know it’s yet to come.

HOW DO I COMMUNICATE WITH MY TEAMMATES?

You can all just enjoy the show from your households, and communicate in the chat. Some teams like to get a concurrent voice chat going in the background, using FaceTime, or Facebook Messenger, or even a video chat using Zoom or House Party. You’ll have to set that up on your own though.

I’M PLAYING SOLO

Playing by yourself? You’re in good company! No action is required on your behalf. Just join the stream, pop your name (or any unique username you like) and take all the glory for yourself. When it comes time to enter team names, pick something you don’t mind being announced if you win the whole thing.

WILL PEOPLE BE ABLE TO SEE AND HEAR ME?

Stay in your pyjamas! Only the host is visible and audible. Everyone else talks in the ruckus chat. Honestly, that’s the best part of the show. We will miss this element dearly when we go back to physical venues.

WHAT'S TO STOP CHEATING?

We try to avoid this 5 ways – The answering platform we use, the pace we move at, the important questions are hard to search for without being left behind (or turning up the wrong results at face value), the prizes aren’t announced until well into the game (so that people are playing for the right reasons) and finally, we call out bad behaviour at the start.

In the end, if people want to cheat they’ll cheat anyway (at their own expense) but so far, people have been great! There’s no glory in winning that way, and the host is sure to set expectations around this at the start.

GIVE ME ALL THAT IN A SUMMARY!

Geez, alright pushy:

  1. Be in this screen just before the event
  2. Absolutely nothing else
  3. Be nice to your host
  4. Bring a great attitude
  5. I love you… Just kidding! Unless?
