Extension practitioners play an important role in supporting producers increase their knowledge and skills which, in turn, can lead to adopting on-farm changes that contribute to reduced nutrient, sediment and pesticide run-off.
Motivating farmers to adopt practices that improve water quality can be challenging, so extension officers delivering water quality extension projects could use all the skills and confidence they can get!
Key to building skills and confidence is sharing knowledge and having peer support. The Queensland Farmers’ Federation-led Rural Jobs and Skills Alliance (RJSA) and its Pilot Agricultural Capacity Building Program, together with the Reef Alliance and supported by the Queensland and Australian Governments are hosting a forum to improve professional development and networking with practitioners in similar roles.
The Forum is available to extension officers, agricultural advisors, project managers and managers of organisations providing agriculture extension in reef catchments.
The forum will enable extension practitioners in reef catchments to:
Share knowledge and experiences about their extension practices
Improve their capacity to deliver extension in the reef
Learn about opportunities to improve their skills and capabilities
Maintain and commit to continuous professional development
Get an update of current and future Reef 2050 programs
“Extension relies on the commitment of the community to the change process, so any collaboration needs to be meaningful otherwise little will be achieved” – APEN.
Take a look at the program here – Reef Extension Practitioners Forum Program.
Register your place at the Forum on Eventbrite. Please RSVP by 27 July 2018.
