🌿 Marking the start of the Noongar season of adulthood: Djeran (April - May) 🌿 As we enter the season of Djeran, we acknowledge the deep connection the Noongar people have with this land and celebrate the beauty of our ever-changing landscape. After the heat of Bunuru, Djeran is a time of cool nights and morning breezes, the shedding of leaves, and the ripening of many fruits - signifying renewal, balance and transformation. The red flowering gums are in bloom, showcasing vibrant pops of colour and providing an important food source to insects and birds. Djeran reminds us to slow down, reconnect, and embrace change. At Landgate, we acknowledge and celebrate the wisdom and cultural traditions of the Noongar people, and we are committed to continuing our work in harmony with the land, its seasons, and its people. #djeran #noongarseason

🏟️ How do you value a stadium? With the 60th Western Derby just around the corner, Optus Stadium will once again take centre stage as the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles battle it out. But have you ever wondered how a world class venue like this is valued? Our expert valuations team plays a crucial role in assessing government assets, including stadiums, hospitals and more. When valuing Optus Stadium, our specialists consider: 💰 Land value – the prime real estate where WA’s biggest sporting moments unfold 🏗️ Rebuild cost – what it would take to reconstruct a venue of this calibre from the ground up. 🌍 Economic & cultural impact – from local businesses buzzing on derby day to the stadium’s role in WA’s tourism and community pride. Optus is just one of 148,000 state assets valued by Landgate each year, with WA’s land and buildings portfolio totalling over $67 billion in the last financial year. Valuations aren’t just about numbers – they help shape decisions that impact our economy and communities. 👋 Meet Sufiah, one of our Assistant Valuers! Sufiah joined Landgate as a graduate in 2022 and has always loved the collaboration and variety that her role offers. Here's a little more about her experience as part of the valuations team... 💼 Tell us about your role at Landgate I'm an Assistant Valuer. My job varies depending on the valuation programs that are running at the time. Currently, I’m assessing the Unimproved Values (UV) within the City of Melville as part of the annual UV revaluation. Before this, I was working on the regional Gross Rental Value (GRV) revaluation of Greater Geraldton as well as the revaluation of all childcare centres across the state that were part of the 2025 program. Other tasks include investigating objections, answering customer queries and applying values to new subdivisions and buildings. There’s always something new for me to learn! 💼 What's the most interesting thing about working in valuations? Variety! I am constantly interacting with different customers and clients. I’m exposed to a diverse range of asset types and learn a lot about legislation and policies, which is a unique experience only valuations at Landgate offers. 💼 Tell us about the most interesting project you’ve worked on and why? The Geraldton revaluation, where I was responsible for verifying commercial and industrial improvements within the port. This meant checking building heights, areas and hardstands (many of which were higher than standard industrial warehouses), to ensure everything was accurately accounted for. Following my verification work, the senior valuer was able to develop a streamlined chart that will make future valuations more efficient and coordinated. 💼 What do you enjoy most about your role? I enjoy the collaboration the most. As there’s a vast amount of experience and knowledge within the valuations team, being in a graduate role allows me to learn and train at my own pace, but more importantly, make meaningful contributions so the team know they can rely on me. We’re proud to contribute to the preservation of culture in our state through our 48 new place names with Aboriginal origins. Some highlights include: ▪️ Karri boya-k / Tree in Rock area: Located in the Porogongurup National Park, the Tree in the Rock site sits within a culturally significant area to the Menang People and means Karri rock-in. ▪️ Boolyalla Bridge: A bridge in Gelorup named after the Noongar word for banksia, as part of the Wilman Wadandi Highway (formerly the Bunbury Outer Ring Road) project. 📍 These place names are part of our broader commitment to promoting reconciliation, land stewardship, and sustainable practices across WA. ☀️ Bunuru is here! Pink and white blooms on the Marri trees signal the start of the second summer in the Noongar seasonal calendar. Time to head to the coast and waterways to escape the heat, just like the Noongar people traditionally did. The second summer reminds us of the deep connection that is held between people and land. At Landgate we are committed to reconciliation and moving forward positively, constructively and in partnership with all First Nations peoples. Stay cool, and let's make the most of this stunning season between February and March. #bunuru #noongarseasons
