Applications to host EuroBIC-19 in 2028

Call to submit a bid
The EuroBIC conferences are organized and chaired exclusively by members of the European Biological Inorganic Chemistry community. EuroBIC conferences are strictly non-profit and all efforts are made to keep conference fees as low as possible to allow the maximum number of participants to attend these largest European meetings of Biological Inorganic Chemists. It is a particular concern to promote young scientists from the PhD student level on by low special fees and opportunities to present their results - not only in form of posters but also with dedicated time slots for oral presentations.
Bids should include:

  • Letter of intent signed by the co-chairs (optimum number 2, participation of women encouraged)
  • Support letter(s) from the Institute/Faculty/University (and/or)
  • Proposal of conference date(s)
  • Description of conference location
  • Preliminary conference schedule
  • Preliminary budget and registration fees
  • Cost of housing/hotels, in particular low cost housing for students

  • Deadline for bids is one month before the start of the next EuroBIC
    -> hence next deadline: July 31st, 2024

Bids (everything combined in a single pdf file) must be sent by e-mail to the EuroBIC Secretary and at least one of the co-chairs must be present at the next EuroBIC conference (that is EuroBIC-17 in Münster) to present the proposal to the committee.
The committee consists of seven members with voting rights: Two co-chairs each of the past, present, and future EuroBICs, as well as the EuroBIC Secretary.

EuroBIC Medal 2026 for Younger Scientists

    Call for nominations/applications
The EuroBIC Medal is awarded biannually during the "European Biological Inorganic Chemistry Conference" (EuroBIC). This prestigious award recognizes outstanding young scientists who are conducting innovative research in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry within European laboratories and actively contributing to the European Bioinorganic Chemistry community.
Eligible candidates must have received their Ph.D. degree no more than 15 years ("net academic age") before the nomination deadline. The recipient of the medal will be invited to present a plenary lecture at the upcoming EuroBIC conference, scheduled to take place in Münster, Germany, in August 2024.
Career breaks will be acknowledged, and applications are strongly encouraged from individuals whose careers have included interruptions due to caring responsibilities or personal circumstances, such as parental or adoption leave, family commitments, illness, or other extraordinary situations. For the determination of the "net academic age" guidelines of the European funding agencies will be considered, such as those outlined by the Swiss National Science Foundation (version 2023 available here). Additionally, evaluations will take into account the candidates' track record of achievements relative to their net academic age, ensuring fair comparisons with other applicants.
Nominations or applications should be submitted electronically to the current EuroBIC secretary (Eva Freisinger) and must include the following documents:

  • A letter of nomination/application (not exceeding 2 pages) outlining the candidate's achievements and active contributions to the European Bioinorganic Chemistry community (e.g. participation in at least two of the last three EuroBIC conferences).
  • Curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages) and a complete list of publications.
  • Copies (in PDF-format) of the three most significant publications by the candidate supporting the nomination/application.
  • Two letters of support from established researchers in the field of Bioinorganic Chemistry.
  • Self-nominations are also accepted.

  • The deadline for nominations for the EuroBIC Medal 2026 is January 03, 2026.

The selection committee comprises 6-8 members, including 2-3 previous medal winners and 4-5 senior European Bioinorganic Chemists with diverse expertise and nationalities. While the EuroBIC secretary is responsible for organizing the selection process, she does not participate in the voting.
