Located 2km off Double Island Point, Wolf Rock was classified as a marine sanctuary in 2003 when it was observed to be the only known gestation site for the critically endangered Grey Nurse Shark on the East Coast of Australia.
Since then the site has gone from strength to strength and is now regarded as

Due to the close proximity of the Great Barrier Reef, you can expect to see a vast array of Tropical and Subtropical reef fish alongside all the other Pelagics! Jacob S2020-10-04Verified Unforgettable and totally unique There's a very good reason why so many people told me this is one of the best dive sites in the world - it's totally breathtaking and very unique. We got the chance to see an amazing array of impressive sharks, rays, eels, fish. The team were fantastic and did a brilliant job of catering to a pretty broad spectrum of experience levels in our small group. Emily was a great guide, and Pat was excellent as well. Really lovely people who make every dive super fun and memorable. Deanno372020-09-28Verified An amazing experience What a fantastic dive this was. The diversity of sea creatures was incredible. All the crew at Wolf Rock Dive where extremely professional and made this dive very enjoyable. I cannot wait to do this dive again and highly recommend it dljdunn2020-09-20Verified Great Dive Location Dived Wolf Rock again on 18 Sept with the Wolf Rock dive team. Two great dives as always. Usual GNS cruising the gutters plus green turtles, devil ray, bull ray, morays, schools of trevally, etc. Two humpbacks cruising south to Antarctica. 10 m viz, 1.8 m swell, 22°C water. Well done guys, see you again soon! Unleashthelarke2020-09-07Verified Great crew, awesome dive. Great crew, super laid back and easy going. Awesome couple of dives with shartk, mantas, eagle Ray's and lots of other fun stuff. thanks👍 charlottej232020-08-13Verified Best shark & ray dive in Australia! This was honestly one of the absolute highlights of my trip to Australia, blows my GBR dive out of the water! Owners James and Alex were very friendly and professional, supplying us with excellent scuba equipment (full hire includes computer). The briefing was very clear and thorough by Emily the instructor. Such an enjoyable day and one of the best dives I've ever done. Magical encounter with grey nurse sharks and mantas! Bit chilly in winter but we were supplied with thick wetsuits so couldn't complain. Fantastic experience if you want the dive site all to yourself, too. 10/10 - would love to dive again! PKLivingthedream2020-08-10Verified Great Day of diving Great day of diving with the team from the Wolf Rock Diving Centre. Dive masters Alex and James were spot on, and the day ran quite smoothly. Gear is all good quality, and both of the dives on the day were seamless. Dive site is amazing, and on both dives we saw the Grey Nurse sharks and plenty of rays. Add in an abundance of large fish life, a turtle or two and some snoozing wobblegongs - it was awesome! Seeing the whales breaching nearby during the surface interval and hearing their sounds while diving was a highlight as well. Well recommended. Dianne A2020-08-09Verified ADVENTURE DIVING AT WOLF ROCK. We feel so sorry for Wolf Rock Dive Centre. They've been clobbered by Covid 19 but now with restrictions lifted in Queensland and glorious winter diving conditions they're in full flight again. Sadly the weather recently this winter hasn't been on their side. Last weekend they had to cancel due to terrible conditions and on Friday 7th August they made a brave attempt to journey out to the dive site through very lumpy seas. A decision had to be made. It was just too rough at Wolf Rock dive site for divers to safely return to the boat ladder, so they wisely returned to land. Yesterday the conditions were just that much better but the same thing might have happened with us coming back to land ~ dry. The team at Wolf Rock Dive Centre are the best operators we've ever dived with. It's a deep advanced dive and anything which can go wrong diving could easily happen in this location, so extreme care with everyone on board is crucial, and that's exactly what James, Alex and Emily did. They are enormously experienced and careful. This was our third dive at The Wolf. Yesterday we experienced a very challenging dive. The trip out was rough but their boat is so tough and we all felt safe. The visibility was low, probably about 5 metres on both dives. We had a mild current plus quite a lot of surge but with all this happening we still managed to see a magnificent Manta Ray, three close encounters of the supreme kind with the beautiful Grey Nurse and lots and lots of passing sting rays. The previous dive we did with Wolf Rock Dive was in February 2018 where we had at least 12 metres visibility and had about 40 Grey Nurse gliding all around us. When the ocean settles down soon this dive site is probably the best in Australia, certainly the most exciting. We admire the team and their hard work. They are always willing to give an honest account of local conditions and numbers of Grey Nurse about. Right now whales are passing close by and sightings of them on the surface happen a lot. But the excitement is to hear their song deep in the ocean. Their calls bounce off Wolf Rock which makes it easy to hear if they're reasonably close by. It's a wonderful location and we're looking forward to returning soon. Thanks to the team for keeping us all safe cheers Pete and Dianne Austin. P.S. We were very lucky to get a few photos. It's so much better when the viz is good, but even without it, we loved the experience. Michael G2020-07-14Verified Awesome day on Wolf Rock Second time visiting Wolf Rock and still my favourite dive site in Australia. Fun and friendly team, awesome thorough briefing and lunch included. Plenty to see; humpbacks, manta’s, 40-50 Grey Nurse sharks, olive sea snakes, giant morays gloomy octopus, eagle rays and schools of fish. Can’t wait to go back! BrisbaneTraveldoctor2020-07-07Verified Great shark diving experience Dived here with my 15 year old daughter, who is hooked on sharks & we weren’t disappointed. Lots of GNS on each dive, plus mantas, eagle rays, bull rays, whip rays, morays, a few wobbegongs & lots of fish life. Emily looked after us fantastically & Wolf Rock Dive’s attention to safety is spot on. Looking forward to diving with them again.Tripadvisor rating score: 5.0 of 5, based on 157 reviews
