From the Director of Community Engagement
It’s been a busy first month for me with several diverse Old Boy events and activities on - from working with our soon-to-be youngest ‘Old Boys’ the Class of 2019 on their ‘All In Giving Day’ (view hilarious clip here – www.charidy.com/bbc ), to attending the hotly contested Hutchies Golf Day and preparing for the Networking Breakfast with Hamish Turner OAM (OC’84) tomorrow. I witnessed firsthand how beautifully Reverend Graham Cole lead Julian Braybrook’s (OC’16) Thanksgiving Service yesterday here in College Hall packed with a family and community still in shock and grieving, and also worked with the Vintage Collegians to organise their Christmas Luncheon which is warmly open to all Old Boys of all ages and their guest. Not all were happy events but all showed the depth of the BBC clan connections that I’m now honoured to be part of.
Kind regards,
Lea Walker-Franks
Director of Community Engagement & Foundation Executive Officer

All In Giving Day
Something Magical is Happening on 24 October...
We’ve set a goal to raise $200,000 to transform five tired classrooms into state-of-the-art learning hubs for our Senior boys over the Christmas break.
On that day, for 24 hours only, every tax-deductible dollar you donate will be DOUBLED, thanks to generous parent donors matching every gift until our goal of $200,000 is reached.
So, $5 becomes $10,
$50 becomes $100 and
$500 becomes $1,000!
This Valedictory Gift initiative provides a tangible opportunity for
Our Year 12 families to say ‘thank you’
Our Year 12 boys to leave a legacy
Our Old Boys, other parents and staff to thank our Year 12 boys for their leadership across the College.
So please share this appeal with other parents and ask them to join you in being part of something magical on 24 October - a day when, more than any other day, your support will be transformational.

Read LessIn exciting news for the whole BBC community, past and present, the College is pleased to announce that historical editions of our College magazine have now been digitised.
To date, the 1916 -1930 editions of The Clayfield Collegian and the 1931-1953 Portal magazines are now searchable online, providing a page-by-page chronicle of our collective memory.
Despite the common threads of Editorial, School News, Sport and OCA Contributions the magazines are evocative of their era in style, layout and photographs. The advertisements which paid for the early Toowong magazines hold their own memories, especially the price of blazers costing 27/6d.
Next year marks 100 years since the formation of the BBC Old Collegians’ Association in 1920 and the launch of this online resource is a fitting start to our centenary celebrations.

This limited edition OCA Cap is designed and produced by Old Boys to commemorate the centenary of Barney Rudd forming the Association in 1920, the year after many returned from active service in WW1.
The Cap features high quality embroidery, original OCA badge, full War Cry along brim & blazer stripe under brim, with 'Old Boy' emblazoned on the back and Centenary dates on the side. A unique OCA item of memorabilia for all Old Boys. Proceeds from the sale of the OCA Centenary cap will go to a bursary fund to enable Old Boys’ sons to attend BBC in circumstances of need.
The OCA Centenary Cap is for sale for $35 from the College Shop. Contact Lesley Ross:

THE SEASON featuring BBC Rugby, coming soon
Brisbane Boys College has an enviable reputation of excellence across the academic, cultural and sporting fields of endeavour. The ‘Green-White-Black’ war cry has echoed across many competitive arenas, guiding BBC to premierships in tennis, athletics, rowing, cross country, robotics and volleyball over recent years.
While famously competitive, the BBC First XV has only achieved a single GPS title in rugby union - a shared championship in 1954 - and coupled with the rampantly passionate rugby culture at the College, anticipation of an outright victory is feverish. This award-winning series follows the BBC First XV throughout the 2019 season, experiencing the ebb and flow of the team’s fortunes, through the prism of high school sport. While concentrating specifically on the rugby program, the College's vast co-curricular menu becomes a character in the story where each boy benefits holistically from all opportunities provided by the school. The First XV is motivated to secure that elusive premiership, however as the season evolves, it becomes obvious that greater life lessons will prove more valuable than any trophy or title.
Pipe Band performs at Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Sydney
From 17-19 October the BBC Pipe Band performed to more than 35,000 spectators across four shows at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Sydney. They joined a cast of 1,500 at ANZ Stadium to perform against a scaled replica of Edinburgh Castle.
Our boys were invited to perform in Sydney following their successful performances at the 2018 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo and third placing at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland. Members of our BBC Pipe Band are looking forward to returning to Scotland next year to compete in the European Pipe Band Championships and the Band has accepted an invitation to perform at the 2022 Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo which will also see them compete at the Scottish Championships and World Pipe Band Championships. What an incredible time to be part of the BBC Pipe Band!
